Karen Fisher is a world-renowned researcher on the origins of language. She was an assistant professor at the University of California, Riverside and then moved to San Francisco, where she got her start as a grad student at the Center for Cognitive Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Karen Fisher is currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Linguistics. We met her during one of the many times we were in her office. She has a great sense of humor and a wicked sense of sarcasm.

Karen Fisher is a linguist, a cognitive scientist whose work focuses on how the human mind interacts with language. Her work is important for understanding how we speak since we can learn language just by observing our own vocalizations. She also does work on a wide variety of topics, including the brain, the evolution of languages, and the neural basis of language.

Karen’s work is well worth reading, and you can find her at www.karenfisher.

Fisher is currently a professor at MIT, but she has also worked at Google. You can find her on Twitter at @karenfisher, and you can follow her on her blog at www.karenfisher.org.
