Jacquees is a game developer that you may have heard of when he was working on the very first God of War. After the first game came out, he realized that he didn’t have any experience with graphics and programming and turned to the business side of the industry. Jacquees was a successful entrepreneur when he started his own game company, and now he shares his thoughts on what he has learned since starting there.
Just to let you know, I spent about 2hrs trying to get him to talk about how he feels about the current state of tech in video games. As soon as he started talking about his job, I just had my mouth hanging open. He is currently working on a game for the Nintendo Switch, and I asked him if he could talk about it.
Jacquees loves the industry, and he’s very passionate about the things he does. He’s also passionate about video games, specifically about how they affect people’s lives. He says that a lot of people don’t realize that games can actually be a positive part of people’s lives, and that’s why he gets paid to talk about what he loves about the industry.
The Nintendo Switch has been a huge success in the business. Its been the hottest thing in Nintendo for a few years now, and its still only just hitting its stride. The company is also still figuring out the right price point for it, which is the biggest issue they have right now. When the new Nintendo Switch was released, people immediately started asking if it was a “must have” and how much it would cost.
The problem is that the question doesn’t really make sense. Sure, it’s a must have, but it’s not a necessary. Sure, it’s a great feature. Sure, it’s a unique selling point. But if Nintendo wants to create a product that’s going to be a huge part of the Switch’s success then they really need to get a good price point in place.
Well, I guess Nintendo hasn;t been a very good price point for Nintendo Switchs. The fact is that the Switch has only been on the market for less than a month and we already know what the Switch costs. They should have started a price point with the Wii U and then released the Switch for a relatively low price and then just kept going. The Wii U sold really well, so Nintendo should have been able to sell the Switch at a similar price point.
The Wii U sold really well, but Nintendo has still had to charge a premium that Nintendo never did for any other console. Most of the cost for the Switch is the console itself. Nintendo also uses the Switch to sell accessories, like the eShop and GamePlus. The Switch’s hardware is already on the cheap side, so I would expect Nintendo to keep it at a low price point until they have enough sales to justify charging a premium.
In the meantime, though, I think it’s safe to say that Nintendo is going to have to charge something like a $200 or $250 price point for the Switch just because of the fact that it takes up two of the most profitable categories on the market. (In fact, it’s really hard to imagine a console that takes up any less than 10% of the market.
If you want a new handheld that’s cheap, you would think Nintendo would opt for getting the best of both worlds. It’s cheaper to sell used hardware at a price point lower than new one, but it also has the ability to be a much more expensive one by having less storage space. The problem is this is also where you have to compete with Amazon and other retailers, and that’s where you can go out and undercut them.
