The fact is that the most common ways of creating self-awareness is by listening to the voice of your heart.
The voice of your heart is also the voice that tells you to do the things that you want to do. We all have that voice inside of us, that voice that we hear when we’re upset or afraid or when we’re sad. It’s the noise that tells us that we’re doing things and that we should be doing them or that we should try to change it.
So, when we’re experiencing a negative emotion, our heart tells us that we should avoid that emotion. It tells us to just not feel it. This is in fact the most basic self-awareness skill. But since we’re not aware of our voice, how can we change it? The answer is by speaking it. We must learn to tell our heart’s voice that we are upset or anxious or sad.
The heart speaks the truth, but it is so much more than that. It’s the body’s way of saying, “I’m scared.” Just as it’s the body’s way of saying, “I’m sad,” so it’s the brain’s way of saying, “I’m angry.
The truth is, our hearts are like one of those little robot voices. They tell us exactly what we need to hear and then we get to decide for ourselves what to do with it. But since our hearts are programmed to tell us whether we are happy, sad, or angry, our brains will tell them what to do with it. The brain does not get to tell us what we should feel.
The brain is just a computer program. As soon as it tells you something, you can decide for yourself what to do with it. But, since our brains are so small and have so many options, they will inevitably forget things and tell us that we should feel something. The mind is just a computer program, and since it also needs to know what to do with things that don’t bother us, it will forget and tell us that we should feel something.
